Caution switching from video

- Most digital cameras today are capable of capturing not only still images, but also video. But there is one caution that I recommend if you're switching back and forth between photo mode and video mode. In many cases, with video, you'll use very different exposures. And so, for example, in video mode, I would typically switch to manual exposure mode and use a shutter speed of about a 30th to a 60th of a second. If I then want to capture a still photo, switch to still photo mode but don't change my exposure mode, now I'm capturing still images with that 30th or 60th of a second shutter speed, and that can obviously be very slow, depending on what it is that I'm photographing and whether I'm on a tripod, for example. And so you'll want to make sure when you're switching from video mode to still photo mode on your camera, that you're also adjusting the exposure settings accordingly.
