- [Steve] Hey everybody. My name is Steve Simon, the passionate photographer, and welcome to a new addition of Photo Critique of the Week. This week I want to talk a little bit about color and when images work in color and maybe when they're better off in black and white. And these examples that I'm going to show you I think are good examples of where color works. You can see in this image, made in Rome, the black and white version, well, I mean, it's there. But it's the color that makes this image and it's the red that makes this image. The red ties it all together. The red of the dress, the red of the Pope in the background, and the cape that the Pop is wearing, the red of the lights on the back of the car. All those elements of color, including the red of the phone, contribute to the excess of the image. And in the black and white, it's just a lot less interesting. So color here really amplifies the content. And…
