Composing around geometry

- In Foundations of Photography Composition, you saw a lot of examples of compositions built up around different kinds of geometry. Geometry is probably one of the more common compositional subjects, and with good reason: it's fascinating. And though you saw a lot of examples in that course, we're going to look at some more here, simply because it's good practice. This is an image by a student named Lewis Key. I don't know if, or how much, he manipulated this scene, and while the composition looks very simple, I would argue that this is a lot like the closeup of the rock that we saw earlier. This looks simple because there's that playing card there in the middle, but it's actually extremely well organized. The use of the shadow in the lower right-hand corner. The shadow up above. There's a shaft of light coming across the middle of the image that's really focusing my eye there in the center, but if I want my eye to prowl around, I've got just lots of shapes.
