- In order to sell content as stock, you need to be mindful of certain intellectual property rights. Now some of these deal with you, the creator, but others are gonna be tied to your subject matter. The first thing to think about is the copyright status of the content. Generally speaking, the owner of a copyrighted work, has the exclusive rights to distribute, reproduce, publicly perform, or modify a piece of work. This could mean that you are the creator, therefore you have these rights. You just might need to register them first. Although, depending upon the country you work in, you might already have rights determined. For example, in the United States, photographers are already considered to have copyright initially. However, video producers are not. It's not the person who shoots the video, it's the executive producer, or the person who's paying for the video project who's deemed to have copyright.
