- So far, we've analyzed noise from these medium format cameras. Dynamic range. But, one of the real hallmarks, the thing you think of when you think of medium format is, wow, there's a lot of pixels. That's a 50 megapixel sensor. That must mean I get incredible detail, and the ability to crop, and just have all this crunchy, perfect detail in my shot. And that's true. That's what you can get with 50 megapixels. But, it's important when thinking about detail and pixel count, to always consider output size. And by output size, I'm now talking about printing. And as far as I'm concerned, if you're not printing your photos, they're never finished. Paper is where things matter. And printing is where the whole medium format question gets a little more complicated. Because if you've got 50 megapixels, what do you do with most of those pixels, if you're printing an eight by 10? Well, you throw most of them away.
