- This week on The Practicing Photographer, we're going to look at a way that you can feel really stupid. At least this is a way that I often feel really stupid. I've got a big, long list of those... What we're going to talk about this week is the diopter control. Now, you may already know where I'm going with this if you're familiar with your diopter control. Before we get to the whole getting stupid bit, or feeling stupid bit, let's talk about what a diopter is. If you have a mirrorless camera or an SLR, or maybe even a high-end point-and-shoot camera, your camera might have a knob of some kind up near the viewfinder. Here's a Fuji X-T2 mirrorless camera, and right up here there's a little knob on the side of the viewfinder. On most cameras these days it's a knob. On some older cameras it might even be a lever.
