Display resolution myth

- Resolution is one of those subjects that seems to constantly confuse many photographers. And understandably because there are many different contexts for resolution. But one of the areas that photographers tend to have in my experience a misunderstanding as it relates to resolution is what the pixel per inch resolution is of a display. Many photographers are under the false understanding that most displays are 72 pixels per inch or 96 pixels per inch. In fact, I've often heard it said that a Macintosh computer has a 72 pixel per inch display while Windows has 96 pixels per inch. That's actually not true at all. It is a myth in regards to resolution. Instead, the resolution actually will vary depending on your display settings as well as the actual monitor itself, the size of the display.
