- When the weather gets a little dreary and maybe it's threatening to rain, there may be great photographic opportunities. You might still want to go out in the dreary weather, but if it does rain, how are you going to keep your gear dry? It's not exactly convenient to use an umbrella when you're out lugging around your photo gear. So how do you keep your gear dry? Well, if you've got a backpack, for example, you might think that the gear inside is safe from the water. But actually water can seep inside the bag and get your gear wet, causing some potentially serious problems. But there's actually a hidden trick with many bags. Many backpacks and other camera bags include a built-in, essentially, weather cover, a rain cover. And so we can take that out and cover up the backpack, in this case, with that rain cover to help keep the gear dry inside. So you might check to see if your existing backpack or camera bag includes such a rain cover or keep that in mind next time you're looking…
