Exposure lock

- If you're shooting a subject and want to recompose the frame, you could take advantage of autoexposure lock, as well as autofocus lock. This is useful when shooting panoramic photos or portraits, and you don't want things to change. The lock button lets you meter and autofocus, and then lock those values in. By default, you'll just press and hold the button to engage it. However, you can change how the button behaves in the menus as well. Let's go into the settings for a moment, and we'll go to our custom settings menu. Now, I'll choose Timer and AutoExposure Lock. You see here that I can actually assign that to the shutter button, which is quite useful. That's going to allow it to lock in place. Now, in order for this to work, it's pretty straightforward. Just half-press the shutter button and then there's either going to be a button labeled AEL, or it might be the sub-selector button here. If I press and hold this, what's going to happen is you'll see AE Lock. So now, as we start…
