Firmware updates

- We all know that we use computers to run software, for example, and that our cameras are a piece of hardware. But actually, there is software in the camera as well. It's called firmware, because it's software that runs on a piece of hardware. And it can be helpful to update that firmware from time to time, either to add new features, or even to fix some bugs in a camera. The first step is to see if a firmware update is available. So you can go to the camera manufacturer's website. And typically in the support area, you'll see the option for a firmware download. And you can check the version of that firmware and see how it differs from the version on your camera. And if it's a newer version, not a bad idea to update. So we could download that firmware update. And then once that firmware update is downloaded to the computer, generally what you'll need to do is copy the firmware update to a media card that you can put into the camera.
