Flash basics

- Many photographers say that they are natural light photographers, meaning they prefer to only use natural light and not artificial light to illuminate their subjects. But sometimes I feel that that comes from trepidation about flash photography. So I thought I would share a couple of quick tips to perhaps open up the world of flash photography, if you haven't given it a try so far. First and foremost is that a flash can actually be relatively easy to use. Now, some cameras include a built-in flash, as this one does. Others would use a hot shoe, so we can attach an external flash directly to the camera itself. And many times, in most cases, almost without exception these days, you'll have the option for automatic through-the-lens metering, electronic through-the-lens metering, so that essentially the flash can adjust its power or the duration of the flash to allow only enough light based on the metering through the lens.
