- This next composition tip that I want to share with you is a quick one. And this one is all about getting closer to your subject. Figuratively and literally. Let's look at a handful of images in order to talk about this concept. Here is a first photograph. In this case, the subject's a little bit lost in the frame, kind of off to that far edge. If we just get a little bit closer you can see it brings us into the frame, into the narrative, tells a better story. And this works well when we have images that are far off like this or even ones when we're pretty close like with this family portrait here. Sometimes you want to get closer with camera, other times maybe after the fact. Here I used lightroom in order to crop the image. You can see that it just makes us a little bit more engaged with the subject. What that does as well is the subjects a little bit higher in the frame. Let me go backwards for a second.
