Handheld flash as fill light
- Key light, fill light, back light, at this point you should be comfortable with those terms, you should know that those are the three main lighting roles that you need to solve when you're trying to figure out how to light something. So, over the last few movies we worked very hard to figure out where the key light goes, I'm feeling pretty confident about it, I think the position is good, I like the quality of that light. I was not crazy about the shadows on that side of Steven's face so I need a fill light to try to deal with those. So I've set up a flash over there. So my key light's going to come this way, and shine shadows that way or cast shadows that way, this light's going to try to illuminate those shadows to reduce them. I'm not going to bother with a test shot yet, I've got to work out the brightness of that flash. So we've got to go through our metering process, but I know for sure that I do not want that flash to be bare. I don't want hard edge shadows coming off of it…
