- Your camera has a few options built in to make it easier to deal with contrast in a scene. These are optional choices, and they really make the biggest difference when shooting JPEG. Let's explore some of the things inside the menu that you might want to try out. From the shooting menu, let's go ahead and navigate down and choose Active D-Lighting. This gives us different types of controls here for the lighting itself. Let's try extra high for a moment and we'll take a look at the live preview. There we go. And we'll just frame this up a little bit, punch in on our subject, and capture the shot. Now, if we take a look at the playback, one of the things you'll notice is that the dynamic range is really pushed. We have bright highlights, and the background is lifted. Let's go in and turn that off for a second and show you the difference.
