Improving contrast with a lens hood

- Besides using filters to control light, a lens hood is an essential feature and it's one you're likely going to have to buy. But with a lens hood, what you can do is prevent unwanted light from entering the camera. You see, what often happens here is without a lens hood, that could cause the light to enter off angle into the lens, instead of the desired path. When that happens, that could lead to a lack of contrast. Now, that's often referred to as a lens flair. Some of you might think that lens flairs are cool. These are not the ones from science fiction movies that look awesome, like starbursts. These are unwanted ones that will appear as spots or areas of washed-out color, and it's all because the Osmo sensor and lens is very prone to this. The glass filters can easily show smudges, particularly if shooting in the rain, and that contrast can really cause issues. So be sure to pick up a few lens hoods and keep them in your kit.
