Lens lock

- As I'm sure you're already aware, some zoom lenses include a lock so that you can actually lock the lens so that it won't zoom. Here, for example, I have a 24 to 105 millimeter lens, and it does include a lock. So it's a zoom lens, and you can see, of course, that the lens barrel extends when I adjust the zoom setting, but I can lock that lens so that now, it does not zoom at all. And the primary idea here is that when you're transporting the lens, it's locked so you don't have to worry about it getting extended, possibly getting damaged along the way. One of the challenges with most lenses when it comes to this locking mechanism is that you can't lock at any focal length you'd like. So if you wanted to lock a lens so that it's not creeping because it's pointing downward just a little bit and gravity is pulling that lens element forward, in many cases, the lens lock is not going to provide a solution. It's just to lock it at its minimum size, you might say, for the lens itself. But…
