- The good news about making headshots, is that don't you need to spend a lot of money on your camera. In fact, you may have a point and shoot camera that could get the job done. There's about three things I want you to consider, and the first is the lens. The lens needs to be able to zoom in. Every point and shoot camera I've seen, that has a zooms lens, zooms in enough to make a flattering portrait. We don't want to use a wide angle lens. When you use a wide angle lens, you have to get very close to your subject to fill the frame with their face. And when you get that close, we got a lot of foreshortening, which means that things that are closer to the camera appear much larger than things that are a little bit farther from the camera. So, for instance, you'll get a very large nose and very small ears. And, the nose and the forehead become very (mumbles), and it's a very unflattering way to shoot.
