Model releases
- Now that you understand some of the general details with copyright and releases, let's dig a little bit deeper. To start, let's discuss model releases which are required in order to upload content. A model release is required for all content that you upload. You need a signed release form from the subject before you can publish the content for commercial purposes. It doesn't matter if they were a paid model or a paid actor, a friend, your own child, or even a stranger on the street that you can't identify, if the person is recognizable to them, then you need a release form. You don't need a release form to see someone's hand, but if they have a distinctive tattoo or piece of jewelry on that they might recognize their own hand, well then you probably do need a release form. You don't need a release form for someone who appears in the background of your video if they're out of focus.
