- In the last movie, we took a look at noise on the 5D and two of our medium-format cameras on-screen, and as I ranted about then, that's really not a good way to assess noise because you're looking at details that you probably won't be able to see in your final output, especially if your final output is print, so I did some printing. We're going to look now at samples on paper. I have printed, we're going to look again at ISO 3200 up to the max on the cameras, I have printed each of those images using an Epson P800, which is a high-quality photo printer. I'm using just an inexpensive matte paper and the native print resolution on that printer is 360 pixels per inch. In other words, if I set my image to 360 PPI, when it goes to the printer, it won't be resampled in any way. So, I scaled my images to 360, I didn't scale them, I set my images to a resolution of 360 without any resampling and then just told it to print on 8 1/2 by 11, so it cropped mostly the same crop out of the middle…
