Photographing the Aurora as it continually changes - Part 1

- So I've never shot the Aurora before, so this is exciting. I kind of rushed out here. I didn't quite anticipate how far the location was from my hotel, but there's still a little bit of the Aurora here. You may not be able to see it on video, but I quickly set up my camera. I didn't have a tripod, because I wasn't actually coming out here to do this kind of work. So I improvised by using a light stand that I had access to, and this, what we call a magic arm or articulating arm, threw my camera up there. But before I even did that, I decided I didn't want to miss it at all, so I set my camera to a really long exposure of, like, seven seconds and just try to hand hold it. I knew that wasn't going to turn out right, but what it did do, is that it gave me an idea of what my exposure's going to to be like. So from there, I was able to generate an exposure that I knew would work, I threw it up here on this make-shift tripod, and then got my composition. Once I had a composition I knew I…
