Position a key light
- If you've made the decision to work with your key light. You've figured out how to set exposure properly. Now you get to get to the creative part of it. We've talked a lot about direction of light, and the way it casts shadows, and how that's important, There's no correct, inherently correct position for a key light, so where shall I put it? I got to tell you, I don't have the foggiest idea, so what I'm going to do is experiment. You know, of course, the problem with the flash is I can't see the effect of the light without taking a shot, and that's just how it goes, so I'm going to move it around and try taking some different shots, and see what I get. I'm going to start by raising it up higher. Don't forget that direction of light, it's actually a three-axis thing. You can shine light down on things. You can shine light up from below, and of course you can move things left, right, and forward, and back, so I'm going to put this up pretty high. I'm a little worried about his hat…
