Previewing and publishing your portfolio

- Once you feel like your site has really come together, it's time to preview it and check it out. Now we've done this a little bit along the way just to see things, but it's a good idea to do a full preview before you start promoting the site or really taking it public. What you'll do is while you're in the Editor, you'll see the Preview button here on the side. Once you click this, the site begins to simulate a live view, even if you haven't published it yet. This allows you to go in and see how the website is going to behave. While you're doing this, be sure to take a look at different options. For example, viewing it on a tablet in portrait or landscape view, and you see how it's going to look. Seeing it on a phone. Well, it's a very different layout and we get an idea on how the design is going to change. I see, in this case, for example, that the logo is sticking over a little bit, depending upon the size there. So with the phone, there's a little bit of bleed through. So maybe I want to go back to the Editor here and tweak that slightly. What I'll do here is click on the logo and choose to edit it. Let's take a look here at the overall size. Margins are fine. Customize the navigation container here and just make that a little taller. Going to take the logo size down here for padding. Looks okay. And just a little pad on the bottom. Good. Let's try Preview again. And I see now that on the phone, it's no longer cut off. So it's necessary sometimes to play with things and preview it on all the different shapes to make those changes. As you're going through, you get a pretty good idea. Now, sometimes when you click, it's going to go to an external page, like the social media contact, but you can try out your contact form, see what pages are suggested and easily navigate through the site. Be sure to take time to explore things and make sure that everything loads correctly. Feel free to test out all your images and make sure that everything comes through in a way that looks great on the screen. When you're all done and you're satisfied, you can click the Update Live Site button. What this will do is take the current site as is and publish those changes. You don't have to preview to do this, but this is one way of going into Preview. When you're satisfied, you can go back to the preview and continue to navigate or exit by clicking Back to Edit.
