Radio communication procedures
- As we already know, operating in controlled airspace requires two-way radio communication. For this reason, a remote pilot in command should know how to effectively communicate using the radio. You need to know how to use proper radio phraseology so that everyone involved understands each other. In addition to that, you need to learn and use the phonetic alphabet. You must use this alphabet to identify your aircraft. The first thing is that you need to make sure that the radio is audible. Make sure the microphone jack is completely plugged in. Place the microphone close to your lips, maybe even touching them. In this picture, you see me and my headset. Notice how the microphone part is touching my lips. You should also listen before you transmit, especially if you have just changed frequencies. You do not want to interrupt existing communications.
