Real-world histograms

- If you have a background in film photography, then you've probably heard of the Zone System. Created by Ansel Adams, the Zone System is a complex theory and process that allows you to calculate exposure and developing parameters. The creation of the Zone System was an amazing achievement, and as much as Ansel Adams is known for his photos, the creation of the Zone System was just as significant an accomplishment in the history and development of photography. And if you're a digital photographer, the Zone System's completely unnecessary. Sorry, Ansel. The reason the Zone System is irrelevant to digital photography is the histogram. With the histogram, you can be certain that you've properly captured the tones that you need for your vision of the scene that you're shooting.
