- Now before you hit record, I always suggest double-checking your settings. I'll do this by pressing the menu button and I'm going to go into my movie settings in this case. What you're looking for, first up, is the quality. Make sure you check that you are recording in the right dimension in frame rate for your project. Next, check the quality setting and unless you're really hurting on card space, record in high quality mode. It's already pretty heavily compressed. From the microphone setting, you can manually set the levels or adjust them to use automatic levels. Generally speaking, manual is going to give you better control. Then check your destination. If your camera has more than one card slot, make sure you're targeting the fast card and the one that has the most capacity. Hopefully, they're the same card. Now you can half press the shutter button and it will go back to standard mode. If you want to focus, just half press that button and the focus box should turn green…
