SSD versus traditional hard drive

- When it comes to storage for your photos odds are you're using a hard drive. And when it comes to choosing hard drives for storage there are a variety of different factors to consider, such as overall capacity and performances. But one of the first decisions you'll need to make, when it comes to choosing a hard drive, is whether you're getting a traditional hard drive, as it were, versus an SSD drive, or a solid state drive. A traditional hard drive has moving parts, spinning platters, and drive heads that move back and forth. That does increase the risk of a physical problem with the drive. It also tends to slow things down just a little bit. Whereas an SSD has no moving parts and so can be considerably faster, can consume less power. The drawbacks of an SSD drive though are worth considering. First and foremost, SSD drives are generally quite a bit more expensive than a traditional hard drive.
