Set flash exposure with TTL

- Like I said earlier, though we're working with manual flash exposure I don't want to discourage you from using TTL. So I want to show you a quick experiment here since we've looked at what it's like to manually meter this out and find a flash exposure. Let's see what the camera would do if we left it to its own devices to make its own decisions. I have a Canon EO 60D here running a Canon flash system using their ETTL, might even be ETTL2 system. So this is their particular TTL automatic flash. I'm set in aperture priority mode at F4 and when I take the shot it automatically calculates based on a bunch of different parameters what it thinks the correct flash level should be and it gives me this. This is a very different picture than what I was getting metering things out on my own. Look at the shadow on his face, it's much lighter. The ETTL system this time has chosen to preserve more ambient light in the scene. It's using a very low flash power. Neither good nor bad, it's just very…
