- No matter what kind of light you use and no matter what kind of backdrop you use, you're going to have to support those things somehow and that's where these light stands and C stands and boom arms and everything come into play. Light stands are super helpful and they come in a variety of prices and styles. You don't need to spend a lot of money, but I do recommend buying a light stand that's tall enough and some of them kind of like six or seven feet is kind of a standard size. I would go at least seven feet. If you can get an eight or nine foot, I would recommend that 'cause you're sometimes going to be photographing people who are seven feet tall and if your light just isn't tall enough for that, their picture's going to look inconsistent with the rest of the headshots you've made at a business.
