- When you sign up to be a stock contributor, there are several different legal terms and concepts that are gonna pop up. We've talked about a few of these, but I'd like to re-cap and introduce you to a few more. First up is the Right of Privacy and the Right of Publicity. A person generally has a right to be left alone, this is their right of privacy. This ensures that the person also has the rights to control their commercial use of their name or likeness. Just because someone may be on a public street doesn't mean that you can take a photo of them and sell it. You have to get permissions in the form of a signed model release for any person who is recognizable. And you need a signed property release if private property appears in your content. We've talked a little bit about trademarks and trade dress. Remember these are things such as a set of words, or a symbol that helps identify a company, a brand, or services.
