Understanding and switching between metering modes

- In order to get a good exposure you need to ensure that the camera can accurately meter the scene. Now, most of the time your camera will get it right. But you can switch metering modes to help it out in tricky lighting situations. The most common method is Evaluative metering. This produces natural results in most situations. The camera decides on the correct exposure automatically to match the scene. Now, if the background is really bright, consider a Partial metering method. Here, the camera favors a zone near the center of the screen that's about 8% of the viewfinder area. If you need a smaller area, the Spot option will look at a very small zone, about three and a half percent of the frame. This is really only useful if you want to be very specific on what's being used to set the exposure.
