Use open shade to your advantage
- Another type of light which is wonderful for portraiture is open shade. One of the reasons why this light is so nice is because you can find it anywhere, any time of day, anywhere in the world, really. And so let's talk about how we can work with this. In this first image, you can see that we have a subject standing in front of the building. Now the building is blocking the direct sun. So there she is in this open shade environment. The image on the right, you can see I just moved close in order to capture an image there. And what you can do with open shade is you can work really freely and you can also capture different types of images. Here we have open shade where it's a little bit more of a warmer tone image, the other one, it's a little bit of a cooler tone. It's still that same lighting environment.
