Using picture controls
- The picture controls in your camera are useful when you shoot JPEG files. They tell the camera how to process the image. Remember, when you shoot a JPEG, the computer inside your camera reads the RAW data off the image sensor, then it applies the white balance setting and then sharpens the image and compresses it and writes it to a file on your memory card. While these processes occur, you can also add extra steps. For example, modifying the saturation or contrast for the image. These controls are really presets on how to handle the file. Now, picture controls are only available when you're shooting in one of the creative zones. Make sure your command dial is set to either Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, or Program Auto. Now, the exact choices you have may vary by camera. But in this case, I've got four to choose from. Standard is quite useful for a balanced image style. It works best for most images.
