- Every now and then I find a subject that really lends itself to a long exposure, and I've got one here that I think is really interesting in two ways. We've got some moving water. That's sort of the classic long exposure opportunity. There's also been some scattered clouds in the background that are moving across the frame. The problem is it's bright daylight conditions, so how am I gonna get a long exposure during daylight hours? I can stop the lens all the way down. That's still not going to give me an adequately slow shutter speed. Maybe that might work pretty well for the water, but it's certainly not gonna work for the clouds. Fortunately, I have a neutral density filter. This is essentially sunglasses for my lens, so that I'm able to darken down the overall scene, so that I can get a much longer exposure. In fact, with this 10-stop neutral density filter I can even get exposures of about 30 seconds during daylight hours. So let's give it a shot. I definitely want to start…
