The blindfold test

The blindfold test

- When I'm out with other photographers after dark, I'll sometimes quiz them about just how well they know their camera. And in fact I will suggest that they might want to take the blindfold test. In other words, can you find all of the necessary buttons and knobs on your camera when you're blindfolded? In other words, when you can't see all of those buttons and knobs. Of course, you don't actually need to wear a blindfold. You could just close your eyes and practice. Do you know where the button is to adjust the ISO setting for the camera? Or which dial you turn to adjust the shutter speed or the lens aperture, depending on what exposure mode you're set to? Do you know if there is a depth of field preview button on your camera and how to actually engage that feature? Basically, do you know all of the buttons and knobs on your camera? Do you know all of the features that actually exist, and could you adjust those features in the dark without the benefit of a flashlight, for example?…
