A guided tour: Common buttons and controls

- Let's start by taking a look at some of the standard controls that you'll find on most Nikon cameras. Now each camera may be a little bit different, so you might not see each of these buttons on your camera. Let's go ahead and start on the left edge. On this side, what you'll typically find is some sort of control dial. This may have a button in the middle that you have to press in order to rotate, and it will allow you to change the shooting mode of the camera, using modes like automatic mode, program modes, based on shutter priority, aperture priority, or manual controls, or the ability to set user-presets or even scene modes. Now sometimes, there may be another ring around this that controls other properties about shooting. In this case, you may notice an additional sub-ring, and it has its own release button, in this case, it's set for things like single shot, continuous low, continuous high, et cetera, or even quiet or a timer mode, depending upon how you want to shoot.
