The medium-format look

- When discussing medium format photography, some people occasionally refer to something called a medium format look. If you've investigated medium photography, medium format photography already, you might have found people on forums saying, "do I have it, do I have the medium format look?" I want to talk about that because, on the one hand, I'm not sure that there is such a thing as a medium format look, although there is a difference between medium format prints and other prints. In the days of film, there was a definite difference between a print made from 35 millimeter film, and a print made from medium format negative, especially if you were blowing up really large. You preserved more tonality. But I think in a lot of cases, what people are thinking of, when they're thinking of a medium format look, coming from days of old, was that medium format had shallower depth of field.
