- In order to get the most out of Photos for Mac OS, be sure you're running the current version of Mac OS X. Apple continues to refine this application with each release, so if you're using an older version of OS X, you may notice some subtle differences between the application I show and the one that you're using. However, the core adjustments and the tools are the same. This is a free application, so as long as your computer's up-to-date, it should be up-to-date. You can also check in the Mac app store to see if any software updates have been released so you're using the current version. Now ideally you'll have some experience working with Photos already, this could be within the iOS environment, such as on a tablet or a smartphone, or you've actually used the application on your Mac already. Additionally, if you used iPhoto or Apple Aperture in the past, you're going to see a lot of similarities. Along the way, I'll make some analogies as we work with different tools, and try to show you how to get the most out of each adjustment. Many of them may seem similar to ones that you know in other applications, but there are a few unique tools as well. And don't worry, if you're starting from the ground up, this is a great way to get a fast look at all of the power that Photos for Mac OS offers. I'm also going to give you several photos that are already in a library file for use. This is a good idea because it will allow you to follow along with the exact exercises and to really bring the techniques to life. So, make sure your computer's up-to-date and let's talk a little bit more about those exercise files so we can start.
