When to use brightness and contrast adjustments
- Two adjustments you might be familiar with are brightness and contrast. These are basic adjustments that'll affect the overall brightness of an image, and the contrast, which is the difference between light and dark areas. Now usually, I prefer the advanced controls of the other sliders, but these can be used in conjunction, or as simpler tools, to get the job done. Let's go to this next image here, which really lacks dynamic range. I see a very washed out image that's lacking in contrast. Let's click the edit button here, and we'll choose the auto enhance button. And this helps quite a bit. Looking at this, I can use the brightness slider to brighten up the overall image. And you see as we do, it starts to really lift out the details. As I choose contrast, it further increases the difference between the shadows and the bright spots.
