Add rain—or snow
- [Narrator] In this movie, we're going to make it rain. So I want to show you how we can use a combination of filters to add drama and rain to this scene. Here's where we begin. The first thing I want to do is add a new layer above my background layer and it is to this layer that we will be adding the rain. Now, this layer needs to be in the Screen Blending mode, and it needs to be black. And the reason is because black is the screen neutral color. When we apply a texture to that, the elements that are on that layer that are lighter will show through to the background layer. So knowing that in advance, I'm going to hold down option and alt and click on Create New Layer. Here, I can name my layer, I can choose the blending mode, and I can check this box to fill with screen neutral color. Now I want to convert this layer to a smart object so that I can apply the filters non-destructively. You commonly see this technique demonstrated using noise, but noise, I think, is a bit too…
