Advanced layer options
- As Photo Shop has expanded over the years, its most robust features have grown up and eventually come to roost in the layers panel. Think adjustment layers, layer masks, blend modes, layer effects, groups, vector based texts and shape layers, smart filters, and even the video clips that we saw in the previous chapter. In fact these days, I'd bet that 79% of Photo Shop's power resides fully inside the layers panel. I've nothing to base that on, but you know what, 79% is my final number, or perhaps it's more like 81% because in this chapter, we'll look at two more offspring of the layers panel, one that controls it, and one that populates it. The first is Layer Comps. In general, Layer Comps allow you to save any given state of a document which gives you the option of presenting and comparing multiple alternatives. Not sure whether a certain layer should be included or deleted, save both states as a layer comp. Want to compare a couple of advanced blend mode settings, save both states…
