Applying an adjustment layer

- [Instructor] In this movie, I'll show you how to apply a typical adjustment layer, which is an independent layer that allows you to correct the brightness, contrast, and color in an image. In our case, what we need to do is change this image from a bunch of different shades of gray to absolutely black and white. And you can do that by dropping down to this black and white circle, down here at the bottom of the layers panel, clicking on it, and then choosing this command right here, levels, which is going to bring up the properties panel. Now if you're not seeing all the options, then you can drag the bottom of the panel down, like so. And you can also make the panel wider if you like, by dragging this left hand edge. Now notice what we have right here in the center. This is what's known as the histogram.
