Applying nondestructive transformations

- [Instructor] Now, perhaps the primary benefit of Smart Objects at least for designers, is that they afford you the opportunity to apply non-destructive transformations. Meaning that you can transform a layer as many times as you want without permanently rewriting the pixels. And by way of demonstration, I'm going to turn these new flame layers off for the moment. And I'm going to go up to the edit menu, this would be the Photoshop menu on the Mac. Drop down to the preferences command, Not nearly so low on the Mac. And then you want to choose the general command. Which has a keyboard shortcut of ctrl + K here on a PC and command + K on a Mac. And then, notice that check box right there. Always create Smart Objects when placing. Go ahead and turn that checkbox off. And then click OK. And now notice if you go to the file menu, and choose place embedded or linked, doesn't matter and then if you're working along with me go ahead an select flame2.jpg.
