- So now your bags are packed and you're ready to go on an adventure. You want to fly somewhere or drive somewhere, and go shoot winter photography. What are some good options? Well, immediately I'd say the Arctic. The Arctic gives you the advantage of generally cold environments, hopefully snow, and the Aurora Borealis. The Aurora Borealis is an actual year-round occurrence, but it's best seen in the Arctic, and it's only dark in the Arctic from September through March, so going in December, or January, or February, winter scenes and the Aurora, it's magic, so I highly recommend the Arctic. What about something a little further south? Then you want to be in environments that tend to get a lot of snow. For example, Yellowstone National Park, wonderful in the winter, it gets a lot of snow. Mount Rainier National Park near where I live. Mount Seymour up in Vancouver, which is my favorite local place to photograph in the winter. So you're looking for high concentrations of snow. The…
