The Brush tool and graphic tablets

- [Instructor] We now want to put some paint on our digital canvas and our primary tool to do that is the brush tool. We find it over here in the tool bar. The brush tool turns our cursor into a virtual brush or pen and I can use it to draw and paint. It's important to point out that I'm not using a mouse to make these marks here, I'm using a device that's called a graphic tablet. It's a combination of a tablet that sits right in front of me on the table and in front of my monitor and a pen. The movement of the pen on the tablet is tracked and used to move my cursor in Photoshop. That way I can make much more fluid movements than a mouse would allow for. If you plan to draw and paint in Photoshop, I highly recommend to get a graphic tablet. It takes some time to get used to work this way because you draw on the tablet in front of you and look at your artwork on the screen. But with a little bit of practice a graphic tablet will help you to draw and paint on the screen just like you would on a piece of paper or on a real canvas. And if you simply can't bend your mind around drawing in one place and looking at another place, you can use a so called pen display which is a combination of a display and a graphic tablet and enables you to work directly on the display surface. These devices tend to be more expensive than regular graphic tablets but it might be worth the investment if it helps you to use your existing drawing and painting skills on the computer.
