Changing hair color

- [Instructor] In this movie, I want to share with you a fun technique that you can use in order to change hair color. This technique works especially well when you have hair which has been dyed a specific color. Let's say, like with this portrait of the bride here, we want to change her hair color so that it's a brighter red, it's a little bit less purple. How can we do that? Well, here, I'll highlight two different adjustment layers that we can use in order to fine-tune color. The first one is Hue Saturation. Now, with Hue Saturation, we want to use the targeted adjustment tool and then click on the color that we want to adjust, in this case, one of the brighter colors of the hair here. Then we can drag the slider around. If we drag it to the left, it's becoming more purple. Drag it over here to the right, you can see I'm shifting that and now it's taking on a little bit more of a red color. We can fine-tune the intensity of the red using this slider here. So, you can see how I'm changing that a little bit. Then when it comes to fine-tuning color even more, there's another adjustment layer, which can be helpful. You can find it by clicking on this adjustment layer icon and then what we want to do is use Selective Color. It's down at the bottom here of the stack. You can also find this up over here. It's this icon right here. I just find the list is a little bit easier to find it than to hover over all of these icons to try to figure out which is which, but either way, click on the option for Selective Color. Now, with Selective Color, we can go into different colors in the image. For example, we could go into our yellows. With the yellows, we could then say, hey, I want to change the characteristics of the yellows. Can you see how I'm modifying those? I can add more cyan or I can make this a little bit more red or more green, as you can see, by using that Cyan slider. Well, really, for this one, it's the reds, right? So, if I wanted to change this, I could add even more red to that and this gives me the ability to shift the mix of the color. We could make that one a little bit more of an orange red, if we wanted that, or use this slider here, we could make it a little more purple, or have a little bit more yellow in it too. So, you can really fine-tune the way the color appears and if we look at our adjustments here, we have one which shifted the color, and then another one which allowed us to fine-tune the hair color.
