Clipping an adjustment layer to a single layer

- One option you have when working with adjustment layers is to further constrain the effect based upon a layer. This is quite useful because Photoshop documents often have multiple layers, and you may not want the adjustment to apply to the entire image. In order for this to work, you should work with a file that already has layers in place. Ideally, some with transparency. In this example, you'll see that we have our regular photograph and the wings of the butterfly. What I did was make an initial selection here. Now, I've already done this, but Photoshop makes it quite simple with tools like the Object Selection tool. You could simply drag around the object and it tends to be able to select. Notice here how easy it is to just select the butterfly, like that. I then copied the wings to their own layer. This gives me some great flexibility. For example, I'm going to add an adjustment here just to the background.…
