Cloning to an independent layer
- [Narrator] Alright now, the problem with what I've done so far is that I've applied my brush strokes as so-called destructive modifications, meaning that I've permanently changed the pixels in the photograph. Which is generally a no-no inside Photoshop the preferred way to work is to paint on an independent layer so that you can always change your mind. And so I'll go out to the file menu and choose a revert command in order to restore the saved version of the photograph as well as bring back those little fish, then I'll click on the front background here inside the layers panel and I'll create a new layer by dropping down to the little plus sign at the bottom of the panel and rather than clicking on it, I'll press the Alt key or the Option key and click in order to force the display of the new layer dialogue box, meaning that I can name the layer as I create it.
