- [Narrator] There are two basic edicts when it comes to retouching. With skin, it's all about the color. Too much red and a person looks flushed, too much blue and he looks unwell. You can't accurately adjust color without color management of your computer's monitor. Color management basically means that the device you're using to adjust color has been calibrated to a universally accepted standard. This ensures the color of an image on your computer will be reproduced the same on your client's computer, as long as it is color managed too. It's not hard. You just need the right tools and software. Many companies make color management tools. I've used X-Rite products for years. I calibrate my monitor before editing an assignment or every two weeks if I'm working on my archives. It only takes about five minutes, but what a difference it makes.
