Combining a precise mask with a gradient
- [Instructor] With some composites you need to combine the precision of a hard edge mask with the soft and subtle transitions of a gradient. In this movie we'll explore how to do that by using a blending mode with the Gradient Tool. So in this file I have two layers, I have the tapestry layer on top and then if I turn that off you can see the cathedral layer underneath. I'm going to click on the cathedral layer, which is the Background, and I'm going to go get the Quick Selection Tool. I'm going to come up here to the options bar and make sure it's set to the New selection. And I'm going to use a fairly good size brush to create my initial selection. My brush size is right now about 326, 400, something like that, just so that it's a nice big brush. And I will click and drag over the shape of the cathedral and it does a really good job of making an initial selection. I'm sure that there are places up at the top of the tower which are not perfect and need work, but we'll fix that here…
