- [Narrator] Pretty much since the inception of lighting in 3D packages, understanding how to both create and then control shadows on CG lights has been an essential part of a lighting artists learning curriculum, Shadow maps, Shadow map resolution, raytrace shadows, area shadows, and a whole bunch of other connected terms needed to be not only known but also understood if a lighting artist was going to be capable of bringing their A game to the table. When using the V-Ray light however, all of that hasn't ever really been needed. Given that it was designed with the idea of always behaving like a real world light and so physically correct shadow behavior has always been built into it. Indeed, the only actual shadow control that we have access to in the light options is that of turning shadows either off or on with on being the default.
